About Loren Holmes:
Loren Holmes is a proud luddite. Traditionally trained in analogue photography and black and white darkroom techniques at Leeds Art University, she favours grain over pixels and has a passion for alternative processes: cyanotype, cross processing, solargraphy, tintype, polaroid emulsion lifts. Subject wise, her work consists of portraits, landscapes, florals, The Erotic, whichever captures her interest at the time. She often looks to her life for her primary motivation and draws on the fundamental themes of love, desire, loss and grief.
Loren enjoys working with her hands and is always looking to learn something new. She has a personal passion for art which was traditionally seen as 'women's work', knitting, dress making, ceramics.
About Her Piece in Gekko en Kat:
As empty storefronts are not the most beautiful thing to look at, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to bring some of the local beauty into the space. A reminder that beauty can be found everywhere, sometimes it's obvious, sometimes we have to hunt for it, but it is there.
I'm using the historical cyanotype process to print my local photographic work on repurposed natural fabric (a playful nod to Hengelo's textile history). I have a particular interest in archiving, especially creating a personal archive, and I wanted to combine this with my love of small things and free art! So I have also created an archive box for you to find and from which you can take a piece of art home with you. Where it will become part of your personal archive. Something you can touch, look at, talk about and share with other people.
